Aspects Of Peformance

In the video Hey Boy Hey Girl there is no aspect of performance due to it being a narrative based video we know this as there is no person singing to the camera and no band used in the video.

Narration

The video has a clear beginning middle and end and flows in a linear format. There was a flash forward. The video is based on the story of the conflict and the relation between boys and girls.

Mode Of Address
Mode of address is indirect as no audience is included. The artist does not look at the camera as the artist is not present. No one is telling the story of the music video.

How the music video displays the artist
The image the video sets for the band is that their unique and different as they break usual connotations with the use of skeletons than superficial people. They also break the connotations of the dance era due to them dancing with water not drugs. The video also shows them as being individual and modern.

How do the visual elements relate to the song; amplification, illustration or disjuncture:

The visual elements in the video is dysfuncture as the video does not relate to the lyrics due to the band using skeletons for example in the club we do not know who is male or female. The video also amplifies the lyrics at the beginning with the girl and boy fighting in the museum this shows that boys and girls have conflict.

Mise En scene

The video is set in very normal places that can be related to the audience for example the club and the taxi which is a very ordinary way to travel at night. There is also use of intertext with the book and the museum. Dark clothes are used so the people staring in the video look normal and blend into the background.

Camera Use

There is several uses of the camera for example close ups to emphasise the skeletons, tracking shot to show her walking and panning shot also establishing shot to emphasis the background and setting. The editing which is used is the match on action which emphasises her walking and eye line match to show her point of view.
Representation

The representation of the girl shows that the girl is quite clumsy as she falls over dropping her book. The video also represents the boy as a joker due to him scaring her by trying on a mask and spitting on her book. The video also represents the girl as quiet as she is reading her book.

Special Effects

The special effects used is flashing lights and dissolve this is weak special effects however the idea of the skeletons is inspiring.

Genre

The genre of the music video is dance and rave due to its repetition the beat and bass suits the genre due to it being at a constant flow. There is also no deep meaning to the lyrics which is very usual in a music video.

Audience/Music Channel

The audience targetted are young people aged 15-30 and the music video is likely to be on TMF MTV Dance And Scuzz.
